Basketball was invented by Dr James Naismith in 1891 and has come a long way since its first intercollegiate game was played in 1893. Over the years, the game has evolved significantly and has become one of the most iconic college and professional sports in the United States.

There are over 2,000 men's and women's basketball teams at the college level across all associations, including NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA. These teams represent various colleges and universities and provide opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their talents nationally.

The USA college basketball is the second-highest level of competition behind the NBA, and it is considered to be of great quality, especially at the NCAA Division 1 level. One of the most notable events in college basketball is the NCAA's March Madness tournament. This annual event generates significant revenue for the NCAA, generating over $900 Million annually.

College basketball is known for producing many of the world's most iconic players, such as Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, Sue Bird, Kevin Durant, and Breanna Stewart, who have all enjoyed successful college basketball careers before reaching superstardom in the NBA and WNBA.

USA college basketball scholarships provide financial assistance to student-athletes who meet the university's rigorous academic and athletic requirements—and typically work in the following ways.

1. Eligibility Criteria: Scholarships are awarded based on factors including the student's athletic ability, academic performance, and financial need. Students must demonstrate to the college and their coaches that they are deserving and eligible for the funding.

2. Awarding process: In consultation with the institution's admissions office, college coaches will review and determine which of their recruited students will be awarded scholarships and ultimately gain acceptance into the university.

3. What they cover: USA college basketball scholarships may cover the cost of tuition, room, and board. It's important to note that some scholarships may only cover a portion of the total cost of attendance, and the student-athlete and their family may be responsible for covering the remaining expenses.

4. Renewal: Most scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis, so athletes need to maintain their academic and athletic performance to have the scholarship renewed.

Sports scholarships are competitive, and it's recommended to start the process early, research and apply to Aspire Atlantic. Check with us if you are interested in knowing more about their process.
