Personal Statement:
As a South African student, I will bring a different and broader view to the conversations at the American university that I attend. I will bring to the table the complexities of relationships in South Africa as I have grown up in a country still finding its feet in a fledgling democracy after the apartheid regime. I live in a country with an immensely diverse population. Although South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world and suffers from poor decisions made by the government, it is a country full of potential. We have a foot planted in both the first and third world. With the help of people starting businesses, and foreign investment it can flourish. I will bring to the table an awareness of the needs and possibilities that exist in the world outside of America and Europe.
